About

Georgia Edwards

Rooted in the wildlife and natural beauty of Vancouver Island, Canada, my paintings explore fleeting moments of presence, atmosphere, and sensory richness. I am drawn to the raw power of wild creatures, and to the way a glance, a shift in movement, or a moment of stillness can feel both intimate and untamed.

As a self-taught artist, my journey has been shaped by curiosity, close observation, and a deep desire to keep learning through the process. Although creativity has always been part of my life, I came to my art practice more seriously later in life, bringing with it a deeper sense of purpose, feeling, and connection to what I most want to express.

My work is inspired by encounters that ask us to pause and look more closely. Through expressive eyes, dynamic movement, and immersive colour, I create paintings that feel alive with emotion and energy, while still holding a sense of calm. Each piece begins with a desire to capture not only the subject itself, but the feeling of being in its presence.

Working primarily in layered soft pastel, I build surfaces slowly, allowing texture, light, and atmosphere to emerge over time. I am especially drawn to pastel for its luminous quality and its ability to hold softness and intensity at once. Through tactile mark-making and rich colour fields, I create depth, movement, and a sense of radiance within the work.

Alongside my pastel practice, I am currently developing a new series in oils. This body of work allows me to explore a different kind of depth and richness while continuing my interest in wildlife, atmosphere, and symbolic presence. As the series evolves, it is opening new possibilities in surface, mood, and material that feel both expansive and deeply connected to the heart of my work.

Inspired by the wild beauty of the West Coast, my paintings are ultimately about more than observation. They seek to capture the feeling of the wild as something tangible, sacred, and deeply alive and to bring that into our everyday spaces.
