My Process
This bear is a large study for my new oil series. The images below follow the work as it unfolds through many stages, with each layer building texture, light, and atmosphere. My hope is that sharing this process brings you a little closer to the heart of the work and invites you into my creative world.
I begin by sketching the basic composition and planning the focal points of the painting.
Setting the tone with thin washes of color
The bear and flowers emerge with the first layers of paint
Adding atmosphere in the background and more texture to the fur
Gold leaf tests and gathering ideas for the foliage before committing to the painting
